wow Marc Ribot too!!! If I'm lucky they just made a mistake announcing Oren Bloedow instead of Mr Ribot... Anyway I can't wait to see her live again! (I've been waiting maybe for 10 years to see Meshell live and now I'll see her twice in less than 3 months... that's a great year!)

I know you guys weren't knocking him, but I'd rather see Oren. I like how experimental he is -- which fits in well with her current line-up. His play reminds me a lot of the Fuze. There's a reason she keeps using Oren on her albums...

I like Oren's playing a lot, too ! I would see him more sober than fuze, but with a strong of personality in his touch (as well as Marc Ribot, by the way, but differently) And I think he's a really good musical companion for Meshell. The reason why I feel so excited with the next show in Paris, is that it's probably gona be a "one evening show". (I believe that it's Marc Ribot who invited Meshell and her band to play with him for this concert). So I guess this will be a never heard before experience and this is how I like music ! But I will let you know how it's gona be.

I'm with you now. I am always interested in seeing her in a different setting -- which is why the Australia show sounds so interesting.

Chris is currently in Sheryl Crow's new touring band, which would explain why he's not playing with Me'shell. Also in that band is Doyle Bramhall II who plays on Sincerity and Love Song 3 with Me'shell.

Just a quick word 2 days after the show... Matthew you were right: Oren is amazing and it was nice to hear him with the Band... very different from Chris! I don't know if it's related, but the show was very different from the Paris one: energetic/intense is the best word I know to describe it... Deantoni is again astonishing... Anyway it was again an amazing show... With my new Phone (the i-type of phone) I got some sounds and a video (4 min of sloganeer)... (if someone is interested, let me know The next show in Paris looks very promising Too bad that a large part of the audience was not really prepared for the Meshell "storm"... but I guess it's a common phenomenon with festivals... By the way I don't know if you have already seen it, but I discovered 2 videos from Bruno Levy with music by Deantoni... worth seeing: - http://vimeo.com/6839694 - http://vimeo.com/6827079 by the way does anyone know what song this is (sorry for the sound quality)? http://dl.free.fr/chwRxn4YEThis message has been edited. Hello ! Sorry for not having reported earlier, (but I still have problems with connecting from my PC) So let's go back to the Parisian show. This was the opening night of the festival "Jazz à La villette" in Paris. The first part of the show was performed by the Black Diamond Heavies, an unusual duet made of a keyboard playing singer and a drummer for some kind of deep trashy blues, or punk-soul. Hoarse screaming voice, guitar-like overdriven fender rhodes and rough energy. Then came Marc Ribot and his guest Meshell for what was anounced as "a night of improv". As announced, the band was Mark Kelly, keefus Ciancia and Deantoni Parks. It started with what sounded like a freejazz noisy instrumental jam. Rock, folk, soul, funk, blues or even reggae followed through their different songs or covers (Crying in your beer, Tie One On, a completly different version of dead nigga boulevard, unrecognisable cover of The wind cries Mary... I'm sure i'm forgeting things...), all keeping Marc Ribot's underground flavor. Chocolate Genius also joined the band for some songs and jams. I was a little disapponted by the sound : the place is supposed to be a very good sounding venue but I didn't find the mix very well balanced : too much keaboards ; guitars and bass were undermixed (which was really frustrating). Nevertheless, it was a really interesting concert because you could feel that everything could happen. They took eachother into unexpected territories. Thus, there was like a kind of tension (which probably prevented a complete looseness) that made you realise that you were listening to true "music in progress". Nice show : not the very best I've seen so far, but a real and unique moment of creation. And by the way, Sbb, your "unknown" song is a cover of his-purpleness "pop life" from the "Around the world in a day" album.
