Yesterday was my sixth concert of the Spirit Musit Jamia (or sextet) : Meshell was back in Paris in a nice place called "la Cigale"
It was a bit of a surprise and disappointment when we discovered that Chris Dave was not on drums : I couldn't catch the name of the new one and, well, to be honest, he is a great drummer, but... How can I say, Chris Dave's playing is so brilliant and original that this concert sounded a little more "classical" than the five previous ones, a little less innovative in the rythmic parts ! Anyway, we all guess that playing with Meshell is probably a great chalenge for a drummer, and he did it very well ! Another point is that we couldn't have an explanation about this change. I hope Chris is doing all right : Matthews or kt, may I ask you any news about him ? For the rest, another sax was playing on Ron Blake's side (I think his name was williams) as well as a brazillian percussionist completing the usual band : DJ Sundance, Mickael Cain and Meshell, of course ! She seemed to put herself a little more on the front side as to reassure the new drummer, playind long bass intros : great moments !
