Did anyone go to the Vermont show last night? How was it?

I had to think about it, for a minute... At first, I thought "...No...", but, then, perhaps you're right. As I recall, Soulive may have had 5 or 10 minutes more on stage. Not that I minded Smile... IMHO, those guys were slammin', especially the one on organ/keyboards! I enjoyed Ivan Neville's vocals, too.

So, in all fairness, Soulive put on a great show, as far as I was concerned. Still...They did come on before Meshell. And, I must admit that I was gettin' kinda antsy, toward the end of their set, 'cause I was anxious to see my girl on stage...LOL!! Perhaps, that's why Soulive's set seemed longer, eh? Wink...

Anyway, my friend, Gary, and I had a ball at the show Friday night. Meshell & the band were ON it, comin' out on stage, hittin' the ground, runnin'... From what I remember, the set list was (more or less) the same as the DuSable show this past summer. The difference, this time out, was that Meshell & co. had more time to perform on stage, i.e., ~ 50 mins. at DuSable, and ~1.5 hours at HOB on Friday (including the encore). So, we got to see Meshell in less of a "rush" (...Remember her comment, "...Are some of y'all in a rush?...LOL!!) than at that earlier date. Another difference that I noticed was that the crowd at DuSable seemed much livelier (overall...) than the one at HOB. Too bad that the 1.5 hours couldn't have gone into 2, but that's OK... I'm just too thrilled, since I've seen sista twice this year!

Sista was just as soulful and passionate as she could be Smile... And, I loved watching her interact with/direct the band, as well as how animated Meshell was. Some of my favorite songs from that night were "God.Fear.Money" (STANK funk!), "Love Song #1", and "A Fool of Me". It was all great, though Smile... And, to me, watching Meshell perform live confirms that she is one of the most phenomenal artists out here.

Yeah... I always recommend that folks get out there and buy her records. But, one must
go and see Meshell live, if one can. That's where ya get the "total experience", as I call it Smile...

OK, then, that's my review...

Later...

P.S. My only REAL complaint about that night: the HOB. That was my first time going over there, ever... And, in the future, unless Meshell comes back there or someone else who's as worthy of my concert $$$, and I just gotta see 'em, don't expect me to come back.

IMHO, that venue sucks (...pardon my French...). The decor and atmosphere ain't workin' for me, and it's a "clip joint" (...to be expected, I guess, 'cause it's really a tourist's trap, playing on a so-called "blues" theme...). My friend & I got over there early. So, luckily, we got to sit on stools, near the stage.

One interesting and surprising thing happened, though... There was a young lady from HOB, going through the crowd, taking photos. She approached us, said it was free, so we said, "...OK, why not?". I downloaded the photo over the weekend from a Web site, and it's not bad Smile... So, at least, we didn't have to pay for THAT...LOL!!!

Forgot this important detail about the tour. There was merchandise for sale at the show. A couple of different t-shirts with the new Meshell logo from the album. There is a black one with red printing, an army green shirt with (cream?)printing, and a navy blue shirt with (cream?) printing. The shirts were sized S-XXL!!! There is an image of a small woman holding a big bass on the top back of at least one of the shirts. There was also a hooded sweatshirt. No new beanies, and all of the albums excluding "Comfort Woman" were for sale. So don't forget your pocketbook or wallet on the way to the show!

Man, it's too bad that you won't be able to check out Meshell on this tour Frown... But, hey, in the meantime, ya gotta make them ends meet, and I can understand it... However... Do you think that, with all of the audio/video stuff bein' recorded at the shows, a DVD/live CD-set might be in the offing and made available to the public, eventually?

Anyhoo... When I went to the HOB Chicago show Friday night, I did not see any merchandise for Meshell for sale in the lobby, either before or after... However, at the DuSable Museum show this summer, I saw some things, e.g., t-shirts, thongs, and some CD's sold in the lobby of that venue. Did anyone else here who went to the Chicago shows at HOB this weekend see any merchandise? I keep my eye(s) out for such things... So, did I miss anything, in that regard?

Just curious...

Catwoman, By any chance did you happen to see a black girl with two-toned blue and black hair with two braids down her back? If you did, that was me. I had on a long black dress and was with my girlfriend who had on a blue shirt. You may or may not have seen me, but I just thought it would be interesting to know if you did. I was standing near the stage and to the left near the handrails. We didn't make it there early enough to get seats but that's ok because Me'shell is definately worth standing up for (literally and figuratively). We had a blast. I wish my girl and I could have gotten a bit closer, though. Someone who started out standing next to us gave her some flowers and was able to shake her hand. Anywayysssss, I can't wait for her to come back to the Chi and this time, I hope she comes back to the Park West on the near north side where she performed last year. It was a much better venue and they had better drinks (lol) cause' I had to have me some Remy Red while listening to Me'shell and her band.

No, I didn't see you at the show. But, I do remember seeing a crush of folks, towards the edge of the stage. And, I saw Meshell shaking hands, as well as someone giving her flowers (yellow roses?), before she & the band left the stage.

Anyway, I'm glad to you & your girl had a great time. And, I, too, wouldn't mind seeing Meshell again - at the Park West, or wherever Smile...

Later...
