cool... i'll wait to see if anyone can afford to help. rent's due in a couple of days, and my paycheck is going there...
hey, so did meshell REALLY walk out on BMc? REALLY? OMG i'm sitting here laughing my ass off at the mere visual of something like that happening. meshell is my GIRL if she straight up dissed BMc that way.. because obviously he deserves it. anyhoo.. please tell me that it wasn't just a rumor and that meshell did indeed rub his face on the tarmac!!!!

...if meshell indeed put her bass down and got off the stage when Mr. Brian Mcknight took stage, than good for her.
As long as nothing was said, I feel she handled the situation gracefully.
It's obvious meshell just wants the respect that she gives other artist. I think what is more important is that Jill Scott and Common as well as other artist are finally answering the call. Projects involving them and Meshell gets me excited
But bashing Mr. Mcknight would get us nowhere and it's such a small thing in the grand scale of it all that it's not even worth talking about it any further...but that's just my opinion

juniormint, it's not small to those of us who've been through the entire process.
my friend in california emailed me back in 1998 saying that she heard "anytime" on the radio, and was so excited to hear me'shell's piano part and was going to buy the album asap. (to support brian for supporting me'shell, etc)
only problem is that later that evening when she got home and emailed me again, and said that me'shell wasn't credited at all. not even in the "thank yous" portion of the cd.
then for brian's continued denials/blatant lies... and the rudeness in the answers that he gave to mtv when questioned about the plaguarism...
me'shell has been respectful however when asked. she hasn't sued him (my guess is because she couldn't afford it at the time, and maverick/wb doesn't give a fuck enough to go after it)...
me'shell may one day forgive brian completely... i know i never will as long as he continues to deny that he stole from her...
i'm with matthew.. bmc gets no respect from me.. the saddest part about this whole thing, is that i first heard of meshell from a friend who was playing peace beyond passion in his car one day.. so i went out and bought it. shortly thereafter i went to see her in concert and heard her play outside your door and when i heard the piano intro, i thought SHE was doing a cover of anytime.. then the next day i went out and bought plantation lullabies and realized that HE was the one who stole from meshell.. as much as i hate to admit this story, it's the truth. so, in my opinion, bmc is a lying thief who doesn't deserve any sort of attention from meshell considering he refused to admit it, and continues to do so. but, like meshell said, at least she can sleep well at night knowing she's not the one who robbed from someone else. juniormint, it's your prerogative to respect him or not for what he's done.. but there are a handful (maybe more) of us who see the injustice of it all and refuse to bow down and show courtesy to a thief. matthew.. you made my day.. YEAH!!! it's not a rumor!! i wish i was there to see bmc's reaction.. and meshell's face as she put her bass down at the mere sight of him joining the jam session

Nowhere in my reply was I petitioning respect for Brian McKnight, If anything what I was trying to convey is that...Meshell ain't losing sleep over it and we as fans should probably not even be discussing Mr. Mcnugget on this site.
Mathew...I got nothing but respect for you and your work so I beg you don't hate me for anything I've written...The comment about this incident being SMALL....I just feel that it's more important to send positive vibes on this site...let's rejoice on the fact that Meshell now has 3 songs in the can and is sharing her dream with the likes of Cassandra Wilson (another great artist)... Mr. McKnight, I'm sure is kicking himself in the ass.
As for me...I'm just trying to send out positive vibes out to those who love Meshell as much as I do...sorry if the last post came off the wrong way.

I'm a little sorry that this issue didn't come to court. Taking the high road is admirable in every way, but, in fact, the thief of intellectual property walks away unscathed if the owner doesn't seek redress. This means someone else profits from her inspiration and she isn't even recognized, much less financially compensated. It's like being robbed twice. This kind of thing is pretty ugly--and it hits the artist, who is remarkable just because of her inspirations, right where she lives.

that's your opinion... and that's cool. however, i (and many, many others on this site) don't share your opinion... and even if me'shell or kt asked me us to keep it to ourselves, we probably wouldn't/couldn't... that's the only beef i had with your post. it's not your place to suggest that we change how we feel about mr. mcknight... nor is it my place to suggest that you change your feelings on the matter
Juniormint (very cool screen name) I forgot to mention this, but I fully understand that you were commending Me'shell's grace, rather than praising the man who steals her idea. This issue carries a big emotional impact. Even the junior office worker is furious when the boss takes credit for his/her little cost cutting idea. Imagine losing a painting, or poem, or a song..
Let's just remember. Anytime was a huge hit for Brian. At least Meshell can know in her mind that had it not been for her and HER creativity and genius music, he would not have had that. Part of his sucess is because of her. Now, proper music fans, and most important people in the industry are aware that Mcknights piano piece is identicle to Meshells. She can as she said sleep easy knowing this. It's him however who looks the fool and has to live with the fact that one of his huge hits... "WRITTEN PRODUCED & ARRANGED BY BRIAN MCKNIGHT" (cough!) wasn't, and was really a creation of hers!
She can look at him and keep on staring, however, he will look away from her!
I wont say well done for dissing him or well done for not dissing him. However Meshell acts is cool. It's how she feels. I'm not gonna analyse that!
Peace.

i paid for the $25 service so i could save the photos from the joe's show, but you can't screen capture, print, or save any of the images... (so basically i wasted $25...)
oh well, consider it a lesson learned... it's not like i don't have enough images of her on the site anyways...

Thanks for asking about my job!!!! I got it! i started last week! Thanks again!
i emailed them, but i don't expect to hear back from them... you can't do anything with the pics... (and as a semi-hacker, i pretty much thought i would be able to figure out a way.)
again, lesson learned great news about the job, congrats
Damn, that's f'ed up. On a Mac you shoulda been able to "Command+Shift+4" the pics. Had I not been in Purgatory for the past few months, I'da helped you out. I haven't forgotten about that Badu show. Just been out of circulation for a bit, but I'm making progress.

the site was protected against doing either of those things, so no worries. trust me, as a user of the 'net since 1995, i know all of the tricks. however, they were using some sort of protection... and it worked.
again, a lesson learned. (an expensive one at that.)
