you said Maverick and promotion set-up in the same sentence. LOL! :P this is truly sad news. I pray that we will ever get to hear this. Hopefully the powers that be understand how much her fans are fiending for this album

So Charlot, if I understand you correctly, no European tour? Too bad. I'll spend February in Japan, but I hoped to make a trip to Europe this spring...

Lawd! I don't even want to think about Maverick delaying this CD (GOD forbid they shelve it indefinitely) ... it was the ONE thing making the idea of another cold winter tolerable. We must pray that there are no delays or be prepared to raise holy hell! *puts on organizer's hat and storms off*

peace- verve has indeed indicated that they do not plan to release papillon in the first quarter of 2004. what remains to be seen is whether they intend to release the project at all or if it is completely shelved.
as you all know, the music industry has been contracting steadily since about 1999; this is just the latest example of how this financial crunch has led to conservatism on the part of the labels. in other words, for a label like verve, a coltrane retrospective is a safer bet than a roy hargrove or meshell "experiment." roy's project eeked out just before the ax was dropped.
in any event, because i negotiated this deal, i will be working to try to salvage it. my goal is to have the record on the market in the second quarter, whether it is on verve or another label. i'll keep you posted.

thanks kt. good to hear from you. happy holidays to you and yours.. Good to know you're still looking for an avenue to get Pappilon out...knowing that, I'm not giving up on the possibility of hearing this one just yet. Fingers are crossed. heheh...then again I'm still hopeful that the old Hendrix stuff she did over a decade ago will get out one day too... hopeless optomist i guess... but damn the corporate part of the music business is a rough 'somabeetch fosho' isn't it?... good luck kt. let us know if we can help out in any way!

what do I not understand about business or the music world that would make such actions logical or beneficial?? verve pay for a record to be made... how does delaying its release increase the potential for greater revenue.. in the future? maybe they don't want to release it so close to comfort woman? i seek to understand..am i a chump?

thanks for the update kt, and it is indeed good to know that you're on the case. PLEASE let us know if there's anything we can do to help ... writing letters, getting the word out, etc. I think that if we can mobilize to show our support for the project, then they will have to face the logic of the clear demand for this music.
It is profoundly sad that in this day of mass-consumption/production of mediocre, plastic, mind-numbing media, that such efforts are being put into keeping the truly brilliant shit off the shelves. WE NEED PAPILLION IN OUR LIVES IN THIS TIME OF SPIRITUAL CRISIS.
Okay, I'm done venting. So for real ... if there's somewhere we can send a letter of support, let us know and I'll get on putting out the word.
peace, el rey

So I just went searching the board for an in-depth description on the title "Papillon: Dance Of the Infidels". I'm just not satistifed with the Steve McQueen movie connection. I'm sure I read something around here a bit more detailed. It was probably somewhere in the MUSEUM and I just don't have time to scour that today. Anyway, i was just Googling and came across this. Any connection? Check the label. Check Track 10. What gives? K'Trazz

1. any chance of Papillion being released on the newly established Okayplayer Records? It seems that since Me'Shell is already on OKP they should help get this thing out there by any means necessary, and since they now are starting up this record label it is as good an opportunity as any.
2. Anyone know if the Spring tour will have the same band as the Japan shows?
