greetings-
quick update... bashir will be in the studio starting monday to begin recording her jazz project. she will produce all songs, has written most of the material and will play bass and keys. the group is called "papillon."

things are shaping up very nicely... jazz legends + today's best+ future stars + cato/gene/federico all engaged in bashir's musical vision... its hectic, but fun. we expect to be finished by 3/17 which is another nice feature of the project-- much of it is being recorded old school style... no rehearsal, just hit it and put it on tape, 2-3 songs a day, analog, mostly live)... 2 weeks start to finish.

also, the papillon album will be released on verve records. i'll keep you posted on a release date.

peace, kt

Well, I had to look up papillon and the dictionary says, "Any of a breed of small dog related to the spaniel, having a long silky coat, a bushy tail that curves over its back, and large ears shaped like the wings of a butterfly." Also papillon is french for butterfly.

Thanks for keeping us posted, KT!

I immediately assumed the 'butterfly' reference...but only because of the Chaka Khan song 'Papillon' lyric that went something like..."...we were very young like butterfies...like hot butterflies..."

can't wait for this projectSmile

You're probably too young to remember the Steve McQueen movie "Papillion" in which McQueen (as the title character) tries, and tries, and TRIES, to escape from Devil's Island. In that movie the butterfly tatooed on McQueen's arm symbolizes freedom.

That's incredible! Meshell and Cassandra again! she did such a great job on Cookie. They compliment eachother well. I wonder.... does anyone have any of Cassandras solo albums. I've seen them in the shops but never got round to buying them!

Anyway... hope all is going well with the record! Can't wait to get my hands on it, just hope there won't be a big delay, which is usually the way with record labels! Anyway.... Give Meshell our best!

So is this a one of type thing for Verve or has Bashir been released/dropped from Maverick?

Either way I am very VERY glad to hear this news.
