freemyheart sold 60 of them... it's a shame it hasn't been more... that's what happens though when your record company does what maverick did to cookie.

That is better than I thought. Did she sell more copies than Bitter? I can't wait for her new album to come out which will probrably be around 2004 am I correct?

jackie, refer to the threads for "papillon" and "update" for tentative releases in 2003.

hey everyone-

this is my first post. EVERSmile

i can't believe cookie sold less than 75,000. no matter- i still think cookie is a classic joint. maybe people will wake up and pick the album up in the years to come.

also- i'm writing a paper on the influences of meshell's work on the hip hop community (the culture, the listeners, other artists). if anyone has any thoughts/opinions you would like to share, speak up!

I'll be posting more in the future.

Smiles,
elke

this is old news but since it happened toay i might as well spill it out . everytime i got 2 a me'shell show i try to take with me someone new who does not know her and her music . usually it's a trip to get the tickets and a trip to the record store to get some cd's for him/her to listen to and "study" before the show ... so today was one of 'em days - i visited both huge virgin mega stores in NYC and could not find a copy of cookie in niether . one was also mising copies of bitter . i know it's not a big surprise but still ... fuck that goto amazon.com...HONEST .

I'll get the international sales figure for you as well; as of December 2003, Comfort Woman had sold another 28k overseas.

The strangeness of our definitions of success didn' treally strike me until we made the jazz record. I had execs telling me they would be ecstatic with 50k records sold. Records that sell 250k are seen as smash hits. And here we have an artist that, in her career has sold around 1.5 million records worldwide, but she is seen as a commercial failure. If success is all about context, then clearly we must always be careful in assigning meaning to this ever fluctuating standard. Who is more successful... an artist who truly touches the hearts of 1000, or an artist who gets 1 million to shell out some money to hear the latest fad?

peace
kt
