I heard a song that I believe is by Me'Shell called "Afterglow". If that is correct, Is it iavailable for purchase anywhere?

in a response to me, fff said that they heard it on Noah's Arc.

plenty of talk about it here... apparently meshell does the score for the series and there have been several vocal tracks as well.

thanks for the heads-up & links folks...so Meshell does the score huh? Plus some vocal tracks too? Man i wish they made it possible for consumers to purchase the scores of these things (I've been looking for the score she did to that HBO movie since last year)

Well if the Noahs Arc show is still on Logo then i'll try to find it and take a listen (i think Logo is a relatively newly added channel on directv line-up)...

i'll let ya'll know what i find out...

cool... nice to see that deal w/ noah's ark materialized; i began working on it just before passing things off to dexter. that song (if it is the same one) harkens back to a great session meshell and cato did in san francisco right after we finished the cookie album. she must have re-recorded it because maverick lost the original tapes of the three songs from that session (one of which is an absolutely gorgeous duet called "i just want to love you").

both of those songs are to die for. if i remember correctly, were one or all of them offered (or going to be offered) to someone with keys in their name?

in fact, i'm wondering what the title of the 3rd song is hehe...

when i saw fff's post, i was worried that someone hacked my computer...

wait...wait...not to get myself too worked up over old business and all, but kt did you say that the record company LOST the original tapes?

wow. does that type of thing happen often (a label losing tapes)?

look, of course i know we're all human and accidents are likely gonna happen every now and again, us being human and all... but dang...i mean ...i wonder, have they ever lost any of madonnas tapes?

anyway, on the positive side, it is cool if we'll get to hear some of that stuff on this show (i still haven't seen it yet but i'll check the lineup this weekend)

So, with me not knowing how release rights and all that legal stuff works...and now that Meshell is no longer with Maverick...is there any chance at all that these tunes could ever see an official release? (either on Maverick or on another label perhaps?)

or am i just wishin' for nothin'?

and as always thanks for the 'behind the scenes' insight kt...that type of unique insider perspective is a part of what makes this site so special...

from what i've read here, anything that was recorded while meshell was under contract with maverick, they pretty much have their hands in.

just wanted to follow up on the Noahs Ark music that some of you out there were lucky enough to hear (i haven't been so lucky yet, keep missing the show)...

but hopefully my luck is about to change...
so does anyone remember the specific episode that Meshells music was featured on most? The reason i ask is that the Noah's Ark TV show is now available as a download at iTunes (gotta love technology )...so if i know which show (i'd need a brief episode description of what happened in that show or the title of the episode if you know that) then i could download that show and check out these tunes!

anyway if ya know which show it was just let me know. Thanks in advance!

Hey Derek, I don't know if it's been said too few times, but when I heard that her music was part of the series, I also remember that she was producing the shows music. But please check behind me.I believe that info was given by kt. Because he was answering someone's question of where did this song "afterglow" come from. And it was one of 3 songs that Maverick claim they had lost.I'm ready to write them ,but no one ever gave what specific person to write to. Let's all write someone out there.

Hey Derek, this feenin again, I know there was some mixup in comments here, please forgive---you have to read mostly all of the replies in order to get somewhere and to get things right,anyway if you scroll up this column to the third comment by Matthew, and go to the word here as underlined it will take you to a google search which if you select "My temptation 2-T.V.com, you will get to see the 9.59 minute episode of Noahs Arc which starts our girls song beginning around the 5 minute mark-listen and enjoy.

writing maverick regarding those three tunes is a waste of time. the tapes were sent to their warehouse by the studio, and that warehouse was, i believe, part of the larger wb music archives. when we requested the tapes in preparation for recording comfort woman, they could not be located. that means they were just lost, mislabeled, whatever... since it was money invested by maverick, they had no incentive to lose them intentionally. meshell decided to just move on as those tunes represented a certain time and space... she was on to the next thing. i don't know how the noah's ark situation evolved, whether a demo track was used or if it was re-recorded. but i am sure that inquiring with maverick is not worth the effort.

actually y'all, i just watched the clip for the first time. those are two different songs. the first part, when the 3-some is starting, is what at one point was being called "afterglow" but is clearly not the version that was recorded while meshell was with maverick. then, when noah links with his man, that is a new song that may or may not appear on the new album and was recorded after her maverick contract was concluded. not sure of the title, i have 'in the dark' but only heard it in a demo format... it is actually one of the most personal songs i've heard from meshell, sort of 'make me wanna holler' meets the last part of prince's 'international lover.' i find it gorgeous, painful, truthful and sexy as hell.

Her genius will still prevail one day soon and Maverick and others will finally be true to our lady of inspiration and release those items of interest to us all.
