Check out this great review given to Me'Shell...

http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=giveawaycenter&s...veaway_enter&id=2646

One key to Earth Wind & Fire’s success is that while their songs are kinetically uplifting, many of the lyrics are elliptical and open to listeners’ own gleanings. This becomes strikingly apparent within the bold and brilliant interpretation of "Fantasy" by the mercurial MeShell NdegeOcello (pronounced me-shell N-day-gay-o-chel-lo). A poet, multi-instrumentalist and singer in her own right, she flipped a giddily inspiring fantasia into a jarring, jagged-edged commentary on the price American soldiers are paying in Iraq to allegedly make that rainbow vision reality. Joining her in this masterpiece is former Soul II Soul vocalist Caron Wheeler. "When I first heard it," Mr. White recalls, "I was in my house and I just started screaming. I was floored!"

Peace
Ewa

Just for the record... the vocalist joining her is not in fact Caron Wheeler, it's the lovely Ms. Sy Smith.

absolutely man...what 'm' said!

As I (and many others here) have stated before, I NEVER get tired of listening to the guitarwork on that Rome show. Along with hearing the new Meshell compositions for the first time, the guitar was the highlight of the gig! The blazing guitar plaing on that set has moved me to have MANY ugly & embarrassing 'air-guitar' moments when i'm in my car at stoplights cranking the Rome gig. Too many times other drivers have caught me making the ugly 'i cant REALLY play guitar, but if i COULD i would play like THIS cat HERE' face. Ya'll know the one. (i WISH i was joking about that part Wink

Your guitar on that is really phenomenal (and i am NOT overexaggerating that. That was NO JOKE)...so yeah, we definitely want MORE of you collabbing on meshells stuff. THAT sh*t was really SPECIAL without a doubt. Just the right balance of amazing technique & obvious skills AND emotional expression & connection with the songs. So...(A) thanks for bringing it like that and (B) here's hoping that was only one of MANY sessions we'll eventually get to hear with you and Meshell. Thanks

Whoa
THAT is exactly one of the main reasons for me being a Prince fan way back when...his guitar playing...when he really wants to he can just BLAZE the HELL outta that thing cant he? wow!

...thanks for the link, i already had the audio to this but its cool to actually see it too.

yeah, USUALLY those 'all star jams' at awards shows end up being somewhat of a mess and never live up to the hype ...but THIS jam performance actually delivered and THEN some. Plus i'm a big Tom Petty fan too so it was cool seeing he and Prince up there going at it. seemed like everyone on stage genuinely enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the moment...very cool.

thanks again for the link!

oh yeah!...Michael Severson IS on the guitar on Meshells contribution to "Interpretations", "Fantasy". I finally picked this up and was glad to see Michael Severson on Guitar in the credits along with the rest of the "Different Girl every night" crew...Sy, Mark Kelly, Gilmar Gomes...and matthew you will be happy to hear that Deantoni Parks in on the drums on this track. (I remember you digging his stuff from the 'Article 3' EP)

I LOVE what Meshell and the Band did with the song. There are some good covers on the album, and I'll have to listen to the whole album again, but for the most part from what i could tell, Meshell and her crew were the only ones who really took the original and made it into something really REALLY NEW. I LOVE that shit. I always say that, if you're gonna cover a classic, then you'd better change it UP and make it your OWN. Unfortunately most artists don't do that, they just rehash the old version, same arrangement with different people playing and singing, and the results usually don't move me more or differently than the original version. Lets face it, 'rehashes' usually pale in comparison of the originals.

Meshell on the other hand TRULY takes hold of the classic and shakes it up and down and around and turns it upside down, putting her own take on it to the point where you wouldn't even want to compare it to the original because its SO diffrent that each version stands as its own thang. Initially you may not even recognize the classic it's changed so much. To me that is a GOOD thing. The classic is a classic for a reason...its already great just like it is. So if you're gonna take it on, i say go at it from a completely different angle. And Meshell and company did just that...

and like i said, i LOVE that shit...i love the way she approaches stuff. The track is cool as all get out, and Mikes guitar is cool as hell on it too... ya'll should check it out if you havent already.

a few weeks till the DC show....the countdown begins...
