peace-
we are very close to finalizing a US distributor; hope to announce partner and release date this week sometime. unfortunately, it is unlikely to be before may.

if that doesn't make you mad, try this: verve indicated about a week ago that they wanted to release the record. unsurprisingly, we said thanks but no thanks.

matthew, sorry about the lille show. it really has been breathtakingly busy for me the last few weeks. meshell also added dean bowman, frontman for the torsos, to the band, so the shows in paris and lille should be really interesting. she plans to sing too, which is the first time she has done that live in over a year.

at present the touring is shaping up like U.S. runs in June and August, europe in May and July, with a couple of US dates in March-- one at Emory University, which i think matthew already has up. She may also play at the winter music conference in miami. Hopefully she will be recording her new vocal record in between all of that and the August dates will be in support of an august/september release.

the next likely release will be some session work she just completed with Sa-Ra Creative Partners on a remix that will appear on a compilation Garth Trinidad is putting together. I don't have all the details, but when I do, I will pass them on. She plays some wicked bass on what is essentially a dance track. Speaking of, did you all notice that the Basement Jaxx album won the best Electronic/Dance album grammy tonight? hopefully that will help it leave the stores...

ok, hope everyone is well.
peace,
kt

Hey thanks KT.

Cool, glad it looks like it'll get released stateside too. I'll cop a copy of the domestic whenever it hits us as well.

Also very cool to see Meshell and the crew are getting some press overseas! I'm cautiously optomistic and hopeful that some of the U.S. press will give her some of that same love whenever the release hits us here (especially some of the US Jazz mags).

Oh I also saw this relatively new magazine "Tracks"...its not a Jazz magazine, just a general music magazine that hypes itself as a quality music periodical for "music built to last"...so I was thinking they would be open to giving our girl some solid coverage.

anyway, as always thanks again for looping us all in man, looking forward to this one!

I went yesterday morning to my recordshop and I am the happy owner of the spirit music jamia first album. (I hope there won(t be just one)

The first thing to say is that i find it quite different from le live experience : smoother and a little less "rythm oriented" and there is also more various stuff in it.
It's not an "easy listening" record, and you need a bit of a concentration to really appreciate it : but you really do appreciate it !
I see it as a mix of free fazz horn melody and beautifull and simple songs.
The good point is that the more I listen to it, the more I like the CD (as always with meshell) and that you can really appreciate the work of each musician when you concentrate on it : I guess this is really the concept for this group : to give to each of them the possibility to express.

Thanks kt for the info.
I hope she'll come to Japan too this year.

And thanks Sebastien for the review of "Dance of the Infidels".
You wrote that "... and beautifull and simple songs".
I heard to a tune (maybe) called "the chosen" thru the Radio Nova (thanks derek!).
It was beautiful indeed.

Today, amazon.co.jp started to handle...

"Universal Jazz". ummm...
