Quick search, more info...

Well, not much, but theres a pic up on her own page at downtown records which is either a subsidiary of Mercer or vice versa..

Whats fly is... they handle a gang of people- Mos Def, Gnarls Santi Gold / White or whatevers...

Seems like a good fit, a good look.

Peep game...

Yo, m. If I add Little Dragon's new album to my cart after Devil's Halo, will you get paid for it too?

I came close to making the trip to Chicago last month, but didn't. So far, I'm... it's going to have to grow on me. It hasn't really floored me like the first album did. I'll let you know.

P.S. And dammit, why are they still an import? At least Machine Dreams is cheaper.

P.P.S. I also tacked N'Dambi's Pink Elephant onto the order. Wink

I'm just going to send it off. Don't worry about buying it from me. I'd rather that money go to the site. PO Box, right?

Yeah, there's only a few songs that really did it for me. Maybe if I was more into that vibe back in high school, I'd feel it more. It's cool though. Glad you'll enjoy it. Hug

I intend to make the Detroit show and though I'm tempted to chase the bus to Chicago, I'm not sure that I can swing it. Although I'm currently unemployed, like much of Michigan, I'm also attending school right now. So I can't be the groupie I'd like to be. Wink

early review from okayplayer from someone who got a promo...

Tue Sep-22-09 10:10 PM by antoniovaladez:
"Im listening to the new Meshell album...

I love it. Im objective as can be. Bright sounds
and guitar chords. Some electronic drums but
much more live drums. Some double time beats and
just beautiful guitar chords that float. Meshell continues to pour
her soul in the the delivery of the album.

edit.. WAIT SHE COVERED LOVE YOU DOWN!! wow!!

Loving this! "

heheh...this JUST happened...

i went into my local record store on the hunt for some good movie deals (along with music they sell used DVD's used Blu ray's etc) ....so i'm browsing the movie section and as i'm doing that i'm caught by the music they're playing over the store speakers...not sure who it is but has a real nice sound to it...a lot of space to it, with some swirling guitars...the vocals were real loose and floaty like, not quite falsetto but high...anyway the song intrigued me enough to go to the counter to ask the dude who it is they were playing, (after all, when the wallet agrees, i dont mind popping down a little cash to support a new artist who's got an interesting sound. Hell, thats how i came across Meshell back in 1993 Smile....

so i ask the dude who he's playing, and he says,

'oh, thats the new Meshell Ndegeocello record...'...

heheh...i guess shoulda known right? Smile

...seriously though, i had NO idea it was Meshell they were playing...but i definitely liked what i heard. Not sure what song it was, but it had a nice 'airy' feel about it...it had 'room' and a looseness to it that was instantly 'refreshing' to my ears...thats what made me go ask who it was in the first place, the song just gave off an 'airy/fresh' vibe that attracted me to it...(i know thats a weird description, but thats what came to mind at the time Smile

anyway not long after he told me who it was thats when i heard Meshells deeper voice come in here and there (that would have been a giveaway had i heard her recognizable deep voice at first, but the higher voice i initially heard i actually didn't recognize as Meshell at all

..so yeah...i'm thinking i'm gonna really enjoy this new record...Smile

and btw: i had to leave the store so i couldnt hear the entire album. (i kinda want to wait till tuesday to hear it all at once with my best headphones anyway) but the cool thing is, talking with the dude working at the store it turns out he's a fan of Meshells stuff too. when i asked him how he thought the album was and he just shook his head, grinned and said, 'man the whole thing is awesome.' He's actually heading up to see her at the Black Cat gig in DC next week. I'm not going to be able to catch that one, but I'll definitely be catching one of the later shows on the tour for SURE...but i juat thought it was really nice to see a young (probably college age) Meshell fan helping to promote her stuff on a local level at this small regional store.

now...lets get these next 48 hours outt the way...

O happy day!

My pre-ordered CD just arrived from Amazon. I too can't wait to hear it through good headphones, but for now, in my office, it's a welcome soundtrack for a busy afternoon.

And I agree that there is a Bitter-like vibe (but more energetic) to this one. Really nice.

And thanks for posting all the reviews, M.

Have been lucky enough to have been listening to Devils Halo non stop for the past 4-5 days.

It is very, very good.

I would say a live sounding Bitter with elements of Comfort Woman/TWHMMTMOFD slipped in there, but without the "produced" sound that came with those 2 albums.

I don't think any Me'Shell fan will be disappointed.

I've been listening to it for the last day. She is so great. As is often the case, the first time through, I am thinking I wish she would sound a little more like the last record. Then on listen #2 and #3, I am thinking wow, I hope she takes this sound with her to the next record. Heh he. Hard to choose a favorite song, but "Die Young" is certainly a contender. Though only 37 minutes, this manages to feel like a complete recording.

Now that she lives in NY, maybe she will be a guest on the Jimmy Fallon Show and do a new song backed by the Roots. Here's hoping.
