GRIMANESA AMORÓS

"You Cannot Feel it… I Wish You Could"
May 10 - July 6, 2008

Opening reception at:
Hardcore Art Contemporary Space
3326 North Miami Avenue, Miami Florida
Saturday, May 10, 7pm -10pm

Hardcore Art Contemporary Space (Miami) Presents the New York artist, Grimanesa Amorós with "You Cannot Feel it ... I Wish You Could". This multimedia exhibition will consist of sculpture, lighting and music composed by the nine ten time Grammy nominated musician Meshell Ndegeocello.*

Eleven handmade paper sculptures cast from the artist's own body during pregnancy, explores the interplay between human biology and society. Central to this work is the image/concept of male pregnancy. Amorós creates a provocative body of work that pushes the envelope of conventional perceptions of human biology. In a world where men and women's roles are consistently evolving the artist addresses the physical lines between genders creating a new human form that is both male and female.

Grimanesa Amorós is an interdisciplinary artist with diverse interests in the fields of social history, scientific research and critical theory, which have greatly influenced her work. She often makes use of sculpture, video, lighting and sound to create works that illuminate our notions of personal identity and community. Amorós utilizes her art as an agent for empowerment to involve viewers from all different backgrounds and communities. Born in Lima, she lives and works in New York City and Peru.

For more information about the artist please contact Hiroka Kitamura.

* Additional info: The music mentioned above is a instrumental piece (from around 2003-2004) provided by Meshell that plays in the background. The multimedia exhibition is an installation piece, so the music is just part of the experience the viewer has while looking at the sculptures.

VERY IMPORTANT: Just for clarification, Meshell will not be showing up to perform or anything of the sort. This information is just for completion purposes as this is the "definitive" site after all. Thanks for reading Smile
