i think this album is one of the greatest jazz recordings ever put on disk. i rank this album up there with "kind of blue" and "sketches of spain".
the compositions on this album are impeccably arranged and executed; and the sense of community among the musicians i have only heard on older jazz albums such as bird, coltrane, miles, dave brubeck, etc. i am by no means a jazz expert. i am only going by how i felt when listening to some of the old jazz giants; and listening to spirit music jamia gives me that feeling. the community that meshell created on that album with so many different muscians was something; i can only recall that type of community being created by the jazz muscians of old. i have to say of all her albums this is bar none my favorite and the best work she has ever created so far. I can only hope that she can create this type of community again on her other albums; and that this is not a one time thing. i'm sorry for being late in the game. speak |
