I went to the Maverick website and "Comfort Woman" isn't listed under new releases yet.
That's quite bizarre since her album is coming out in October. They're failing to promote the album just like they did the others. I'm being pessimistic but I just find it strange that Meshell is not promoted like other Maverick artist. Confused

maybe they learned from the mistake with cookie. now they're going to wait until they're 100% sure it's coming out (rather than promote something for on october release only to release it 8 months later.)

it's a bit too early to be kicking them again...

being that kt is now working on the maverick side of things for meshell... i have a little more faith that things will be better this time around. her music will not be any easier to promote (for maverick, or any other record label for that matter), but... well... i'm rambling.

let's just wait and see Smile

I see your point Matthew. If they aren't sure about the release date, then promoting the album might be a bit premature.
What was the deal with cookie? Was the line in Hot Night (suffer in the world trade paradise) the only set back for releasing cookie so late, or was it other issues as well?

there were a lot of issues... and i'd really rather not go into it anymore since it's already been covered so much already on the site, and all it does is get me worked up.

I feel you, Matthew. It’s all in the past now. Hopefully support will be better this time around. Perhaps I spoke to soon about promotions. It appears that they are updating www.meshell.com. They've got a celestial background and the page title says, "Comfort Woman: Stay Tuned". But that probably has nothing to do with Maverick though...right? Slow

mine doesn't even say stay tuned. weird.

i've been told by someone rather close to everything that the album is coming out oct14.

and that's all that really matters to me at this point.

I can cosign Matthew's comments, having also heard from Maverick sources that 10/14 is the day.

But anything can happen. There might be a completely legitimate delay or one mired in BS...or no delay at all.

Maverick staff took down the "Cookie" background from meshell.com. The new site is being built right now and likely won't be up for another month. My understanding is that it is going to take another 4-5 weeks to launch. I wish they had left the link to the old site up -- but maybe this way more folks will come to freemyheart to get their fix :-)

yeah... i seriously question why they took down *all* of the info on meshell.com

newbies will go to meshell.com and find nothing. no links. no tourdate info. nothing. 4-5 weeks? tickets will be sold out in some cities.

i don't understand the asteroids background image. and expecting everyone to notice the note at the top of the screen is... ludicrous.

oh well. i want to say that i'm sure there's a good reason for it... and that i have faith... etc... but at this point, i don't.

it would be like me taking down freemyheart.com and putting up a background image of my prince cd collection.

yeah, yeah... i know meshell just read and thoroughly enjoyed "cosmos" by carl sagen, but this is counter-productive.

the old argument stands. is this what maverick would do to promote madonna's new album? a background image of depends diapers? or maybe alanis? maybe a background image of her pre-maverick material?

i doubt it. i can't think of any artist that would do this... and it continues my argument that nobody realizes what kind of an impact the internet can have on her career.

when i said it was important to utilize the internet more, i think they misunderstood and removed what little content was up and now have up *nothing*.

4-5 weeks of nothing? meshell.com has officially turned into a seinfeld episode without the laughs.

These were my thoughts too. I hear they are going to do teaser-style information against the starry background. As a former publicist, can I please just say: that is a tired move and not even die-hard fans have patience for all that. Come on. And no link to the old site?

Erykah Badu had a decent website and a few weeks ago she signed a Resident Artist agreement with Okayplayer.com, which is building a new site now. They put up a teaser page but it at least has cover art from the new joint, links to the old site, and links to sign up for both the fan club and street team. Plus, they are promoting the new album on their message boards, AND they were given the new single to promote to subscribers. We're talking about a project that buttheads at Motown are paying for, and even they knew better than to slap up some random blank site with no information. Turnoff if I ever saw one.

In connection to the Comfort Woman project, I had an opportunity to discuss my personal opinions about Meshell's fans with some Maverick people and make suggestions about what might be useful promotion. Again, these were just my opinions -- but one of the things I told them was that since Meshell is not mainstream, there is precious little mainstream info available to begin with. I said that hardcore fans know about FreeMyHeart and often seek information electronically since there is little to be found in print or televised media. I said that fans tend to be communal -- posting places like this Polyogue that Matthew set up, other Meshell-related message boards, meeting at shows, etc., and that word travels fast among us. Maverick types thought these observations were spot-on.

So tell me why they'd go and do something like this? If they believed that her fans were online and seek out info that way, then why cut off a major internet info channel? Is this supposed to build anticipation?

If they took down Madonna's site, we'd hear about it on Entertainment Tonight. But Meshell gets the guinea pig treatment.

Yet another missed opportunity.

The new background probably relates to song number 3 on "Comfort Woman"...Andromeda & The Milky Way. That's my guess anyway. Wink

Oh. Okay Matthew.
I wasn't sure you were serious about Meshell reading the Cosmos by Carl Sagan since you said you didn't understand why they used the background. No biggie.
Peace. Hug

what i didn't understand (what doesn't make sense) is everything else involved with the decision to have zero information about meshell now available at her official website...

plus, i feel sorry for those people out there who are now going through withdrawals not being able to listen to that 10 second snippet of "earth" over and over and over and over again....

speaking of... there's now a 10 second clip of "river" (aka the andromeda milky way song) playing at meshell.com now Smile

i feel like i should save each day (or however often it's going to be updated) from here on out for everyone that's going to be missing this "surprise" hehe...

i think it'll be enough of a nice surprise (and that's really not saying enough) if the album actually comes uot on october 14th. admirers would be happy with that... (that, and knowing about tourdates before they're sold out because the info wasn't on the official site... but that's just me Wink
