Hey, Matthew...

I am relatively new here, in terms of checkin' out your site. But, I've just gotta tell ya that, in my opinion, you are doin' just fine! I have found a wealth of information about Meshell on Free My Heart. And, I think that you are puttin' that "official" site from Meshell's "rekudd"label to shame... Big Grin...

Thank you for all that you have offered/continue to offer us, as a fan who really cares Smile... Now that I've found this site, I regularly "tune in" for news about my gurl, Meshell, 'cause I know that you are up ON IT!

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate what you're doin', Matthew Smile...

Yeah... Well, I did see that asteroid wallpaper, placeholder-kinda stuff the other day. What a crock of (you know what...)! Then, earlier tonight, I tried to get into the site, and IE crashed after I got the prompt to download some new version of Flash, or some such program. I got PO'd, and didn't return...

So, what's up with them, now? All I know to be true, and in my opinion, is that whoever runs that site for Meshell has been sorely dissin' her, like she's some kinda "marginal" talent. And, I just don't like what has happened with
www.meshell.com.

well, they way i look at it, they're making the same mistake i made in 95 when i first began building sites.

in 1995, nutscrape netscape was the most widely used internet browser. after installing the first version of internet explorer, i began building websites based on that browser because it was the coolest one at the time.

a lot of people dogged me because they were still using netscape, so i went back and made it so my site could be viewed using both netscape and internet explorer.

now ie dominates the internet browser market (right or wrong...)

the problem with shockwave only sites such as soulive, and meshell.com is that they are all gimmick, and very little content. at least soulive has content, and meshell.com used to have a little. however, unless you have shockwave and a computer that can handle shockwave, and the patience you need on a dialup connection, you get ZERO content...

and you can do the math as well as i can. either reach all of your online fanbase, or use some bullshit gimmick and cut out the ones that are unable to access it for one reason or another... i just don't get it.

there are multiple problems with shockwave.

basically you're expecting ALL of the visitors of your website to have a computer good enough to use it. you're missing out on computers that either don't allow programs such as shockwave, or simply can't handle it.

plus, when you update it, you have to update the entire portion that loads, rather than just editing a text file which you can upload immediately.

why is that such an issue? well, with artists like soulive and meshell, their online fanbase counts on/demands new information because both soulive & meshell are constantly recording and touring, and their fanbase knows this, so when there are no updates, it pisses off everyone. period.

the way that shockwave sites are set up... you are basically wanting to get all of the updates done at one time, or after that, they can wait until the next update since it's so much more time consuming. so unless you're passionate about an artist, you're going to update less.

i don't do any other artist websites, because i'm not passionate enough about it to spend the time that i spend updating freemy♥, updating some other site. i feel i'd be cheating said artist, and that artist's fanbase because i wouldn't be updating it as soon as i have new information like i do with freemy♥.

but that's just me. apparently meshell likes shockwave. and since more of her fans aren't saying that shockwave straight up sucks donkey balls, it's going to stay that way for the time being.

all that said, at least at this time velour (meshell's new management) is keeping you all updated with the latest tour information which i update as soon as i receive from them on this website... i feel that this will continue, at least until this fall when they open a new (hopefully non-donkey ball) website for meshell.
