I thought it was nothing short of amazing. While there are a few generalizations, I thought Michael Moore's production was brilliant. He is a necessary voice and illustrator with the ability to reach many cross sections, but more specifically, middle white America, who may not be as willing to receive the message or critically examine American culture, when promoted to do so by nonwhites. I don't mean to turn this into a race issue, but even Michael Moore himself realizes his position and affect as a white man himself in America. Moreover, he has the great ability and skill on such a large scale to pick a target (an easily overwhelming one), freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. (This is a tactic in Saul Alinsky's, Rules for Radicals)Think of the ending scene with Charleston Heston. It was almost uncomfortable to watch as was most of the film. Overall, it creates a much needed discomfort, which I hope becomes part of the emerging catalyst for social change. It is a movie worth owning.

Though I'm sometimes bothered by Michael Moore's categoric and subjective way of dealing with some issues, I love it.
I found "Bowling..." terribly effective... It brings up issues that really deserve some discussion... Beside the fact that his irony and cynism are a delight...

More generally the movie was a huge success over here in Switzerland, and, I believe, in western europe...
Since "bowling for columbine" Michael Moore became kind of an american icon here... quite a few of his movies or documentaries have been broadcasted on tv (at least in Switzerland & France).
Through people like M. Moore, europeans are probably relieved to see that there's another "america" than G. Bush's "america"...

Also, even if it mainly targets the american society (at least a part of it), many of the critics apply to europeans too... and if they don't now, they might in the future...

People that dare to put a mirror in front of us and critic us are always necessary... Not only do they create discussions and wake us up, but they also do remind us that being different and confronting and sharing our opinions is necessary...

well... i think i'm gonna move to Canada also... why? since yesterday the main political party in Switzerland (with around 25% of the votes) is a far right party... we suffer of the same infection than our neighbours (Austria for example...)... and today i'm ASHAMED of being swiss...
Last month I wrote that we all had to wake up... well, i can only hope that the swiss will wake up too and understand that the xenophobic and simplistic speeches of what is now to be considered the most important party in Switzerland will only leed our country to shame and political instability! Blaming others for our problems and using hate as a political argument will never be an honest and true answer...

anyway... the only thing i'm sure of today is that i'm angry...
