When we support the troops:
do we support what they are doing there? do we support them being there in the first place? Does it mean wanting the troops to be successful and continue with the attack? Does it mean we dont want them to get killed? I think all folks should ask themselves those questions before they rush to answer that question with yes. If it mean nothing more than not wanting the troops to be safe, then why should it be incumbent on those not supporting the war to give that kind of "support" to the troops? So, matthew, readers, help me--if you do "support our troops," what do you mean by "support"? |

maybe that makes it a little clearer. not sure why i posted the poll. just wanted to give folks a place to vent if they wanted to. there's no right or wrong answer.

i'm completely against the war. (yes, i voted in your poll). but i think it's important to know that the distinction that is being made (very clearly) these days is that not supporting the war doesn't necessarily mean agreeing with saddam hussein's dictatorial practices. nor does it mean one can't support american and british troops and hope for their safety and return since they are, after all, obeying orders.
the fear that seems to be rampant elsewhere in the world is that the united states govt acts like the world's police, and that can be a very dangerous thing. it's cool that america is the "first world" and "leader of the free world" and all the other supremacist titles attached to it, but to think that it should be the world's police is a different story altogether because it implies that america (or the govt) knows whats best for the rest of the world, and that is not just arrogant and wrong but also flamboyantly outrageously retarded. ok, that's my 2 cents. deshi |

deshi: I shouldn't reply, since I'm already halfway finished with an extremely potent German Dopplebock, but here goes: I can't help but agree with you on a lot of your message. You're right that the idea of the U.S. acting as the world's policeman is pretty repugnant, and arrogant, and misguided. On the other hand, what upsets me the most is not the idea of using force to further policy, but our current administration's focus. Right now the world is seems crowded with potential dangers, and our leadership seems determined to avoid any real dialogue as to what must be done. Right now we're in Iraq, losing lives while desperately trying to find "weapons of mass destruction" which may in fact not exist. At the same time, most people know that Pakistan is 100 times more likely to supply weapons to terrorists, and North Korea is moving quickly to go nuclear (a problem called "regional" by our esteemed leader). I know the world is dangerous, and I know force is sometimes a tool of foreign policy, I just wish we'd think a little harder before we commit ourselves to this kind of dangerous enterprize.

Hey everyone,
What I'm interested in is while America is policing the rest of the world, who's keeping track of America. I mean, Bush is defiant against the U.N. so who do we have to turn to once Bush finishes with the rest of the world and turns on his own people? The funny thing is that the real power lies in us, especially the young people, and not Bush. We have to become more organized and as brother Farrakahn says, "Speak Truth to Power." We have to remind the sleep walkers that America belongs to every one, not just an elite few who makes decisions for our lives with the flip of a coin. I mean, it's like, Heads ---- we go to war and kill thousands of innocent desert negroes, or Tails---- we arm the poor, illiterate, and starving rivals and let them kill eachother. Could it be any more obvious that we are approaching the last days and times. So, while America keeps us pumped up on entertainment and propaganda, the rest of the world is going through hell. It's sad to say, but the time has come where we must choose sides. Either your against murdering innocent people for natural resources, whether your following orders or not, or you say f**k the rest of the world, I rather be the devils right hand man than his enemy. I mean, It's just your soul, RIGHT???????? Hotep! |

The war Iraq is most definitely disapointing. One, the troops are being executed on a daily basis, and no one can give a solid reason as to why. Two, we are spending millions of dollars on this project when just last year the government was talking about cutting funding for most of the programs NEEDED in the urban communities of this country due to lack of money? What the hell is that? I guess the money magically appeared. All of the officials in this country need a crash course on priorities!!!!!!!
