Has anyone read the autobiography of Rebecca Walker? I found it fascinating! She lived a very independent childhood, and the book was eye opening. She mentioned Me'shell a few times as well. She never said her name, but she mentioned her lover often. If anyone read the book here, what did you think?

yeah,it was pretty good...now I know why my mother kept us (me and my sis) so close to her while we were growing up...and even then,it wasn't fool-proof...and that's why I keep my babies close......but I know it won't be 100% fool-proof....

i read the book and also got a chance to get it signed by rebecca. she gave a talk on my campus and read a bit from the book as well. i thought that it was a very honest and open depiction of her childhood. i mean sometimes even after reading an autobiography i still walk away and feel like the author was a little distant and hadn't really disclosed any information that wasn't already known to the reader. i hadn't known that she was such a storyteller and comedian. i laughed out loud so many times when reading it, i know people thought i was crazy!

i thought it was honest and beautifully written. our experiences were/have been vastly different, but she described hers in a way that really spoke to me. i remember crying while reading the book more times than i laughed...it's like she was describing the pain i had felt growing up.

the one thing i wondered about the book was how her mother (one of my favorite authors of all time) reacted to it. the picture painted of her wasn't exactly a positive one.

hope you weren't offended by me saying that i laughed many times while reading rebecca's book. by no means am i saying that the book is a comedy, all i meant was that i found some unexpected comedy in the book.

black, white, and jewish was definitely one of the most beautiful and honest books that i have read in a long time and i don't think that anyone who has read it could walk away and not feel some of rebecca's pain regardless of their individual upbringing and/or ethnic background.

For those who'd be interested in Rebecca, i made a little website on her this summer, it's small but it's aim is to archive the articles published online that i had once found and read but which dissapeared fastly.
